Netball is a sport played out between 2 groups comprised of 7 players for each team. It was first set about in England in the 1890s and blossomed from the earlier styles of basketball. To give way to global competition, playing rules have been standardized in 1960. Netball has restricted motion in comparison with basketball that's why even in the very first days of the sport it was socially ideal for women (wearing dresses) to play it.

Melbourne social netball is a fast and exciting game. It is comparable to basketball but employs an official netball that is smaller and lighter. The target of a netball team is to score more goals than your opponents by shooting the ball from a ring that is placed on a post.


Not like basketball, netball has no backboard right behind the basketball hoop and players are not allowed to dribble. You have to have fantastic skill in moving the ball so that you can make a goal. The court is divided into regions and players are given specific roles. Their placements determine their roles inside the team and control their motion in particular parts of the court. To distinguish the player’s position, a 2 letter acronym is printed on the bib that is worn by the participants. The poses are: the goal shooter, wing attack, goal attack, goal defense, wing defense, center and the goal keeper. The sport enables only two placements in the defensive shooting circle; their purpose is to prevent the rival from getting a goal.

At the start of every quarter or each time a team scores, play roll-outs with a player in the center position and passes the ball in the center of the court. The umpire blows the whistle to restart a play each team will have four gamers in the center third to receive the pass. As a rule, a gamer could only have the ball for 3 seconds before making an attempt on the goal or transferring it to a teammate.

The sport can be played out outside or in a covered stadium and balls employed in this game appear in many colors and sizes. The social netball can be played out among family, friends, co-workers as well as any crew who are serious about the game.
